on styling...

I lean towards natural light photojournalism in recording your special moments. I don't like to force moments, but I am happy to direct where necessary. I am also fully versed in studio lighting and flash techniques, should they be needed. Where possible, I will always do a consultation with you to make sure our styles mesh.

on deposits...

For a special event like a wedding I typically ask for a sum to be put on deposit to secure the date. The remainder is charged just before you receive your final images. My full terms and conditions are available to clients once a date and fee have been agreed.

on travel...

I am mostly based in Hong Kong, but frequently in Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Bali and Sydney. I am always up for a bit of travel, so wherever your event is, let me know. A surcharge is applicable on overseas packages, but I price fairly if accommodation and travel is also covered by you.

on delivery...

I aim to deliver portrait/family photos within 2-3 weeks and wedding photos within 6-8 weeks. You will typically receive around 500 images for a full day of wedding coverage. All my clients receive their photos through beautiful, bespoke client galleries, which can be password protected. A download PIN can also be generated to offer further privacy. On the other hand, if you want to share your gallery on Facebook or with your friends by email, you'll also find that easy to do.

on studios...

Yes! I do have my own space near PMQ in Hong Kong which has proven very popular with families, start-ups and creatives. Check out The Kandid, my woody Scandinavian-tinged bolthole. I also keep a huge battery of photo props there for those special moments! We've had tapas nights, photography workshops and seminars, hen parties, board game nights and more. People also love the space for our uniquely bespoke Photojamming parties.

Justin is fantastic at putting you at ease... his studio is stylish, yet fun and informal - a bit like him - and the shots turned out great. If you schedule an evening session you might be lucky enough to share a post-shoot dram with him!

on staying small and "bespoke"...

Every shot you see on my website was taken by me and edited by me. I do not outsource or delegate any editing. When i work with an assistant, that assistant's involvement is limited to minor assistance with equipment. I prefer to work as a confident sole shooter, so to keep my services bespoke and exclusive. If your event has a particular requirement for a second shooter, I am able to recommend peers i have worked with extensively, or else I will bring a seasoned assistant.

on fees...

Occasionally, the question comes as to whether I am able to discount on the basis it is a quickfire event, which will only last a couple of hours. What I can say is that I spend an equivalent amount of time editing, tweaking and making your photos glisten, in front of the bright glare of my computer screen, which really forms the bulk of my work as opposed to the basic attendance of an event.

on weddings...

During a special event like a wedding, I prefer to work surreptitiously, never intruding upon a moment too much, whilst at the same time offering a reportage style that fully captures the essence of your event.

I have extensively studied the methods of wedding photographers in Australia at first hand, and taken elements of their covert style to capture my clients at their best. I am not a full production team with all the bells and whistles, but a fly on the wall who is able to capture moments without breaking the flow of an event. Everyone has a preference, and I completely understand those who want the former style, to be dazzled by a glitzy Hollywood-style production. What I offer instead is a bespoke, tailored experience, especially for small to mid-size gatherings.

You can rest assured I always find the time for your extended family portraits too.

on business insurance...

Yes, we are fully covered by a reputable agency.

on gallery prints...

Contact me for more details as to bespoke artwork commissions. I produce limited runs of canvas prints of exceptional subjects I have captured. I also sell creative images for stock usage at Creative Market.

on dress...

I always arrive to a client event well presented. Why does this matter, you may ask? After all, shouldn't it be the photographer's job to blend in with the background? That is true to an extent, but I find that when people have made an effort to plan and execute a grand event, the least the photographer can do is match those standards. I am also unlikely to offer strong opinions to your guests in conversation unless asked to do so. I believe in certain standards of decorum as I am there to record your event, not be the focus of attention.

on gear...

My pet peeve is talking about gear (both clients and social media followers alike tend to ask). However, in response... the photo below (from my Instagram) probably represents 10% of the total cameras and gear I own. And I haven't even included reflectors, strobes, tripods and other gear in that figure. Why am I showing you these? Not to brag about my hoarding, but as an illustration that I care deeply about imagery.

on distribution of images...

I understand why most photographers strictly control the number of images rendered from a portrait or event shoot. I also understand why many photographers choose to embellish with large watermarks to protect their work, whereas I seldom do. However, I always try to be as flexible as possible with regard to such matters.

Of course, if you need suggestions as to my own preferred printers and book production teams, I am always available to do this and happy to be engaged to produce artistic prints and albums. I work with a number of craft printers who ship worldwide.

Thank you for visiting my site and I hope you like my images.
